What brings you here

When familiar ways
no longer quite fit.

You may have built a capable, considered life and still find yourself returning to the same emotional difficulties or relationships that leave something unresolved. You may be facing a transition, questioning an identity that once felt settled, or sensing that the way you have lived no longer reflects who you are becoming.

Sometimes the difficulty is clear. At other times, there is a quieter sense of distance from yourself, a loss of meaning, or an experience you cannot yet put into words. You do not need to arrive with a finished explanation.

My practice is particularly suited to adults who are curious about their inner experience and willing to explore it in relationship. Many are accustomed to thinking deeply, and want to find a closer connection between what they understand and what they feel.

The work itself

Attention to what
is happening within
and between us.

Psychotherapy offers a sustained opportunity to notice patterns as they unfold: how you protect yourself, what you find difficult to express, what you long for, and how earlier experiences may continue to shape present relationships.

I work collaboratively, paying attention to your emotional experience and to the relationship we develop. We may stay with a feeling, explore conflicting parts of yourself, or notice a familiar response appearing in the conversation. The pace and direction emerge through our work together.

My person-centred and humanistic foundations place your experience and the therapeutic relationship at the centre of the work. Psychodynamic understanding helps us attend to patterns that operate outside immediate awareness. A systemic perspective keeps family, culture, relationships and wider circumstances in view.

Emotion-Focused Therapy and Voice Dialogue deepen the experiential dimension of this work: attending to emotional processes and the different parts of ourselves that may hold conflicting needs, feelings or ways of relating. Together, these perspectives support a coherent way of understanding your experience, with the direction of therapy emerging through our relationship.

Areas for exploration

The questions that
matter to you.

Our work may include:

  • Recurring emotional and relational patterns, including those you understand but find difficult to change.
  • Midlife transitions, changing roles and the reworking of identity.
  • The distance between intellectual understanding and felt experience.
  • Inner conflict, self-criticism and the different parts of yourself, including those that receive little attention.
  • Questions of meaning, belonging, intimacy and how you wish to live.
  • The influence of family, culture, professional roles and wider systems on your sense of self and relationships.

A wider relational perspective

How we experience
ourselves with others.

My experience facilitating experiential therapeutic groups also informs my individual work. Groups can reveal how we seek connection, manage difference, take up roles and respond to belonging or exclusion. These experiences can make familiar interpersonal patterns more visible.

Whether working with one person or a group, I remain interested in the relationship between inner experience and what takes shape between people. Group work has its own purpose, boundaries and setting; enquiries about this aspect of my practice are welcome.
